Maleny: An Alternative History by Elaine Green

This book is a colourful contemporary history of a place that was changed forever in the 1970’s when a new wave of people came to Maleny to settle.

like the first pioneers, these people wanted to be self-sufficient and to start a new life. Known as a dairying region, the new settlers established the Maple Street (food) Co-Op, the LETS system, Maleny Credit Union, Waste Busters, the Upfront Club, and other community groups.

The book has an extensive table of contents, includes many black and white photos, and is a great resource for anyone wanting to know about the Alternative communities that were established in and around Maleny.
